Models again: Dowty House Development

So whinging on social media does have consequences. Turns out that you get lumbered with more work. Jokes on you though, Jamie as I was in my element here and I definitely spent far longer than I should have been. Now I need to catch up on my other modules but I think and I hope you will also think that it was worth it.

Sitting on the edge of our North Place development lies Dowty House. A stunning Victorian orphanage that is currently under development to create boutique apartments. The development entails removing the 1950s extension, retaining the charming building which is one of Cheltenham's main landmarks with its bell tower. Contemporary extensions and apartments are being built in the rear of the site.

For my model, I used card folded from nets to create the angular roofs and details. There are also several trees on site (existing and new planned trees) which I made out of pipe-cleaners and matches. For contrast, for the red-brick buildings I used white card and I used black card for the modern buildings. These will be all black in real life with black bricks, cladding, and roofs.

I was asked by my lecturer, Jamie, to not go mad and just get the general shapes and heights. I thought to ignore this as:

1 - I was up to the challenge

2 - This is the main landmark visible from North Place carpark. It also features a number of trees that would be visible from the site once they are planted.

3 - The development is still under construction so most people would not know what this is going to look like when it is finished. It is so important to know what this is going to look like next to our planned creative quarter as it completely affects the context of our designs.
